The European Commission is there to promote the interest of the European Union. It will be now examining the matter of acquisition of Shazam by Apple last year. Keeping the competition in mind, the group will check out the deal’s effects. Multiple European countries requested the commission to take a look if the acquisition was allowed under the European Union merger law

Why was the Request made?

These countries filed their request to know; how bigger a threat acquisition of Shazam could be for the society? Now Apple will have to ask the commission to approve their deal and sign off with or without any extra conditions. If there are any bigger concerns, then it could also open the doors to further investigation.

Acquisition of Shazam

The acquisition of Shazam by Apple happened last year in December. The deal money wasn’t disclosed publically by the companies, but the reports suggested the worth to be around $400 million. What is Apple planning to do with Shazam, there are no updates or indications yet. One thing to notice though is that the Shazam App is still live in the stores and haven’t been taken down yet.
