Breach Alert, Multiple Microsoft Accounts Hacked

0 0

After the data breach that occurred in January, Microsoft faced another attack as it is probably another hacker attack these days.
In the previous security breach, 773 million emails and thousands of passwords from multiple domains were leaked.
Microsoft has agreed that certain accounts made at MSN and Hotmail have been attacked. According to the company’s spokesman:
“We addressed this scheme, which affected a limited subset of consumer accounts, by disabling the compromised credentials and blocking the perpetrators’ access.”
In response to the attack, Microsoft has also dispatched the alert mail to the victims. Most of them received the email on Friday evening.
Hackers accessed the folders, sender/receiver mails, email subject lines and more. However, they could not access the content of the emails, it is what Microsoft stated.
Users should change their passwords as a precaution. According to the company, the breach happened between 1, January 2019 to 28th March 2019.
The hacker obtained a customer agent’s login credentials to enter into the system. When identified, the company disabled the credentials. Microsoft is not sure about the type of data hacked and for what purpose.
However, it has warned the users for phishing and spamming attacks in advance. In Microsoft’s own words:
“You should be careful when receiving any e-mails from any misleading domain name, any e-mail that requests personal information or payment, or any unsolicited request from an untrusted source.”

Question Marks Remain

On a good note, the enterprise customers of Microsoft was not affected. However, there are many questions that need to be answered.
For instance, the company has no confirmed data about how many user accounts have been attacked. The territory of the users is also unknown. All the company could identify was that some of the accounts were based in Europe.
There is still no information about how the data breach occurred. Who was the hacker and how the company discovered about the data breach?
